Is life making you tired?

Do you miss the feeling of pure joy?

Have you forgotten the last time you did something for the first time?

Have you lost your connection with yourself and your body?

Answering 'yes' to any of these will for certain mean you need a break - not a vacation - an actual retreat from yourself. I invite you to rediscover yourself this summer. To feel the warm sand beneath your feet, the salty breeze on your face and experience the energy that connects us all through hoop dancing!

Experiences & Workshops

All levels of hoopers will enjoy our energizing beginner workshops, fitness and flow for a bit more challenge, twin hooping, hoop making and fire workshops. Yoga and dance movement round out our offerings. Evening hoop jams and LED demonstrations will dazzle and delight!
Our hoop retreat will be an intimate weekend with a maximum of 30 participants. This will allow you to have one on one time with the instructors as well as share your experiences with other hoopers. Our focus is to help you to unlock your inner dancer and find your own personal hoop dance style - in a supportive, open and encouraging atmosphere.

Your Weekend Wiggle Guides

Picture
Ellen has been wiggling since 2010. She had been taught the craft by a variety of hula artists including the performer Lucy Loop as well as Jen Wilson from Sugar Hoops. Here on the Island she is a regular at Carron McCabe’s class at Hooptality. This Christmas she performed with her LED hoop on the main stage of the Confederation Centre of the Arts. Ellen has performed with her hula hoops for the past two years at the King Street community party.

Recently, Ellen has been focused on the group dance experience. “I love how a simple move can be made spectacular by having it done by a group of hula hoopers in succession. The waterfall effect is quite beautiful.” Ellen not only wiggles with the hula hoop but she also has a passion for creating these magical circles. “I do love creating things. Sometimes it works out exactly as I plan, while other times it turns into something I did not know was coming but alway the art is fun. My dreamcatcher hula hoop will be part of the sage cleansing ceremony happening on Friday night. Sage cleaning helps one clear the mind and body and start fresh.” Ellen is the owner and creator at Frogprincess Hula Hoops. She has been making pvc taped hula hoops for 5 years. This year she has also started making polly pro hula hoops to supply a growing demand here on the Island.

Ellen has always had a passion for creating accepting environments for artists of every genre to express themselves freely and openly. “People who are allowed to express themselves are just happier. I also believe that watching someone express themselves with an open heart and mind can be a form of expression in itself. Seeing and hearing with an open mind is an art form that our society is loosing. My hope (my hoop hee hee) is that this Hooptality Retreat will help to retrieve a bit of that beautiful artform in all of us."

Ellen’s Workshops
Sage Cleansing Ceremony
Sage cleaning is used by a variety of cultures to cleans the mind and body of negative energies. Each participant will enter the sage dreamcatcher hoop to free themselves from all negative energies so they are able to enter into the weekend of wiggling with a positive mindset and an open heart.

Hoop Making Awesomeness
Ellen and Carron will be sharing their expertise on how to create a hula hoop with your very own hands. We will walk you through the tools and materials needed, construction techniques and decorating tips to make your new hoop beautiful! Tubing, buttons and rivets, oh my!

Synchronized Dance
In this workshop you will learn how simplicity can become spectacular. Alone it might look a bit boring but with a crowd it becomes a synchronized sensation. Following the leader takes on a waterfall effect that will wow your audiences.

Arm Work in the Ocean
Increase your balance with distraction and have some laughs in the process! Sculpting our upper body with hoops - a workout that won't feel like work!

Closing Circle and Celebration
Wiggle it out with your new friends and hula guides. Show off your new found skills with confidence. You are now perfectly you, as you always were but now you know it.

Lyndsey Paynter has been a fitness instructor, dance choreographer, personal trainer and yoga teacher for more than 7 years. She holds a BSc Human Kinetics, is a CSEP Certified Personal Trainer and Yoga Instructor. Her passion for health and inspiring health in others, combined with her enthusiasm for embracing fun and freedom in our bodies makes her the perfect guide for us on this retreat.

Lyndsey teaches regularly at the New London Community complex, runs competitively and when she is not eating her greens she is expressing her creativity through painting. Her dance experience includes Latin, Ballroom, Hip Hop and Contemporary.

Lyndsey's Workshops
Beach Yoga Flow

Experience a yoga class where movement is connected to breath as you flow through sun salutations, warrior poses, twists and binds. A challenging class ending with meditation.

Dance Movement
Don't we all want to look like amazing dancers? Or at the very least NOT look like a trucker with a hula hoop?!
In this workshop we will learn how to incorporate dance and grace into our hoop style, connecting with our body and building a repertoire of moves, handwork and footwork. A great workshop to build your dance skills and knowledge while having a lot of fun!

Carron McCabe is a hoop addict like no other! She has been making hoops, teaching classes, designing choreography, attending hoop workshops and obtaining hoop dance certifications (yes...there are certifications!) over the past 3 years. In fact, this summer will mark her 3 year hoopaversary! Carron is passionate about helping people rediscover their passions, revealing their path in life and setting goals both as a career counsellor and as a hoop dance teacher. Carron has performed for various fundraisers and local events - you may have noticed her hooping during New Year's Eve celebrations in Charlottetown. Carron's mantra is simple: "your process is perfect", embracing the concept that we are exactly where we need to be in our hoop journey - no style is superior because only you can dance like you. 'I once read that to dance is to feed the soul and that really resonates with me - our soul needs to be nourished - a hula hoop happened to be the dance that really unlocked a part of my soul and I hope for everyone to experience such a feeling!'

Carron's Workshops
Warm Up Wiggle
We will get warmed up and acquainted with each other all while having some fun with icebreakers - all with hoops of course!

Finding your Flow
Connect with your body, discovering your inner tempo, your innate rhythm, and your creativity in hoop dance. This workshop will start without our hoops and explore meditation and movement. Discovering what flow is, how to create conditions that set you up to achieve and create flow as well as how to create sequences that produce flow.

Twin Hoops for Beginners and Beyond
A workout for your brain and your body! Carron will break down how to dance with twin hoops (2 hoops of the same size and weight) with the goal of connecting several twin moves together. Ohh fancy!

Tricky Hoop Tricks
- are not just for kids! This is where circus tricks are explored - One handed helicopter, wedgies, hand spins and some Hooptality hoop moves will bring out our inner hoop star! We will also work on some group hoop tricks -  which are the funnest ones of all!

Hoopmaking Awesomeness
Carron is a master hoop taper - investing countless hours in hoop design and creation.  In this workshop she will share her tips and tricks for creating and troubleshooting the hoop making process to arrive at a perfectly crafted hula hoop. She may geek out on you just a little bit! Consider yourselves warned;)
